Toastmasters International, with over 250,000 members and over 10,000 clubs, in a 103 countries is a training organization which is roughly equivalent to a franchised operation, all staffed by volunteers. It presents many leadership opportunities

  • Club members can assist with the many projects that clubs tackle, such as Speechcraft, special events such as induction dinners, and the like
  • Club members can volunteer to run the club. Positions are President, the VPE or Chief Training Officer, the VPM and VPPR who form the club's marketing team, the Operations Officer, also known as the Sergeant, as well as the Treasurer and Secretary
  • Clubs around the world are organised into Areas, and these collections of clubs need to be administered
  • Areas are organised into Divisions. The person who runs a Division is a Division Governor. This is roughly equivalent to a regional manager, running a large geographical area.
  • Divisions are organised into Districts, each with its own team of seven which mirrors the Club leadership structure. To qualify to serve as one of top three positions at a District level, you need to have served a term as an Area Governor or Division Governor.
  • Districts in North America are organised into Regions. Other Districts are not assigned to regions; these are known as Districts Not Assigned to Regions (DNAR).
  • Regions (and DNAR) have directors
  • Ordinary Toastmasters can stand for the office of International President, on the main board of Toastmasters International.

In addition to these leadership opportunities, Toastmasters International in 2006 released the Competent Leadership Manual, the first step in the Leadership Track of the Toastmasters Educational Program.
