[edit] District 58 Spring Conference
The Spring District 58 Conference is typically held the 3rd Saturday in April each year. The location varies. As part of the conference, there are workshops on improving public speaking skills and club improvement. Two contests are held each spring. The first is the Table Topics Contest. Contestants are secluded and each is brought out and given the same selected topic on which to speak. They have 1 - 2 minutes to present a clear, composed response to the topic given. The highlight of the Conference is the District 58 International Speech Contest. Contestants present a 5 - 7 minute speech typically with a motivational or inspirational theme. They are judged on the speech content and presentation skills such as vocal quality, poise and presence. The District 58 winner proceeds to the Region VIII Conference where that winner will succeed to Toastmasters International's World Championship of Public Speaking.
